If this is all you did before writing it off then you are the very person I am referring to. Saying it is an APS-C lens stretched to a FF shows your lack of knowledge about this lens. Once off 24mm the corner corrections aren't needed and the lens performs very well. Maybe you missed this part of its ability. I have one, use it often and it is far from "not that bad" for what situations it can cover. It is actually surprisingly good.
Agreed indeed! Besides, it's DANG sharp in the center 1/3 of the image no matter what focal length you're using. If one is super picky (and I am) and they are looking for a "landscape perfection" lens then sure, ante up for a RF24-70 f2.8L IS USM and you're there. I happen to have one of those to. But it's a lot more fun to run around with that "all in wonder" RF24-240 if you're traveling light and don't want extra lenses to bother changing. In the end if you're going to print a 13x19 out of it or even resize the image for a full size view on a screen it has no glaring issues. But oh so many are hung up on that 100% pixel peep view they never appreciate it's "real world" value
Having a lens like the 24-240mm that is optically very good considering its range is very liberating. I can't tell you the number of great photo opportunities I have missed over the decades because I had to switch lenses to get the shot and doing this wasn't possible or by the time I did it the opportunity had passed. These wide range lenses eliminates this problem and when they are as good as the 24-240mm you don't pay a big penalty in IQ from using them. I am an opportunity shooter a lot of the time. Especially when walking around and while traveling. I will take specific lenses if I know I will be shooting in low light conditions and a flash can't, or shouldn't, be used. Or if wider angles are needed to get certain framing or thin DoF is needed etc. Plus, as I get older my wife and I just don't have the same physical tolerance to haul a lot of heavy gear around like we used to. I think nearly every photographer would be surprised just how much they would use this lens if it was in their kit.
