I’m sorry to say but the 200 f2 VR/VRII does not have better AF performance over the 70-200FL, if anything it’s the other way around and the 70-200FL has faster and more accurate AF.

Have you used the two lenses in the same conditions and on the same camera body?

I Have.

Both are so fast under usual conditions that I usually can't tell the difference.

D4; TC 14 E III; 70-200 f/2.8E Fl
1/1600s f/4.5 at 220.0mm iso200

However, with the TC 20E III and in low light the 200VR seems to have an edge over my 70-200 f/2.8E Fl, though I haven't done a critical comparison

D4 200VR/TC 20E III f/4, 400mm

Of course having the ability to shoot at less than f/2.8 , bokeh and subject isolation favor the 200 VR over the 70-200 f/2.8 E Fl

I'd also be interested in others' experience comparing the two.

Best Regards,
