I spent the better part of the last 3 years shooting a D4 and D4s.   Those cameras are both spectacular in low-light, and my experiences mirror your own, especially the JPEG engine.  
The Z6 and Z6ii I would say are equal to, if not better than those two cameras in JPEG rendering.

I don't have any samples to share here, but my regular shooting scenario for sports was in a cave of a gym where I'd regularly have to be at 12,800-16,000 ISO to freeze volleyball action.   I'm confident the Z6ii can produce equal or better results in image quality.
