Yes, I know DT, and actually tried it some years ago, as well as Rawtherapee, when I needed a new Raw-convertor because Lightzone did not support the Monochrom. I found the interface of DT very confusing (this is personal, I've seen what people can do with DT so not bashing it at all!)  Eventually it became a close call between RT and Capture One; eventually settled on the latter because I get much faster to the results I want with C1.

But none of these are pixel-level-editors, although C1 has pretty elaborate layer-functionalities.

Obviously, Photoshop is not an option, as I'm not going to pay 12 euro each and every month for something that I would only use very occasionally. I know there's people who compare it to a certain number of beers or cups of coffee, but I'm confident those same people are also not paying for beer or coffee that they don't actually drink
