If you don't want to spring for an M1 Mac (or like me, are trying to hold out for the higher end models), you can still edit the files by using proxies. In Premiere Pro, for example, you would make low-quality/bitrate proxies of the clips when you start, which will take some time, but once done, you can edit with those files. Then when you export, it will automatically use the high quality versions.
