Good But Inexpensive Mid-Range Zoom?

Looking for a good but inexpensive (under $300 preferable) mid-range zoom. Obviously the 24-105 f/4 L is way out of my price range.

Really the focal range that needs to be good would be the 35-70mm range.

It's fine if it has a WIDER range than 35-70mm and if it isn't too good outside that range. (meaning, it is fine if it is 28-105mm but it is not so great outside of the 35-70mm range).

Doesn't necessarily need to be TACK sharp because I would be using it for 4K video, and doesn't necessarily need to have OIS, because it will probably be on a tripod the whole time.

Otherwise, if there are a couple of inexpensive primes at around 35mm (or 28mm) and around 70mm, that might work, too. They can even be FD mount lenses since I will be adapting them to my Panasonic S1.

Thanks in advance.
