... What ever happened to photography?

Lots and lots of cameras and phones too can take good photos of things that aren't moving fast.

The D500 and the 300 before it are better than most cameras at difficult subjects like fast moving birds. I suspect as time has gone on the D500 buyer is passing up cheaper cameras because they need the very best at focusing on fast action, so birds are going to be a big part of that and conversely the guy that just wants to take photos is using a camera or a cheaper more versatile superzoom./bridge.

The reason I have my D300S and the reason I might get a D500 is not for general type photos, it is because I want to nail flying birds and my dogs running full speed. A bald eagle pair lives near me and one day one of them skimmed about 8 feet over my head. One day I'll have my camera when he does that and I want it to lock! For just general not-fast-moving stuff my old D60 does a fine job and the colors are actually a bit nicer than the 300. For landscapes and so on I would have stuck with that and saved money.
