Mike I don't know if there is a Sigma look, but I'll guess that there probably is, since even the differences between a Merrill and a Quattro can be quite obvious in some comparison sets of photos. All I know is that I'm pretty happy with my Sigma Art lenses, and now that I'm addicted to the image quality from my 85mm f1.4 G lens on my Nikon D810, the 50mm f1.4 Art is the next lens I plan to get for my Nikon. (The Nikon 50mm f1.4 is quite inferior.)

I have to say I'm really loving some of the photos I've been getting with my SD Quattro H lately, since I got a couple of Art lenses for it. Maybe it's just that I'm traveling, and photographing better subjects, but I don't think that's all it is. I think lenses are SO important, but the Foveon sensor does seem to make a difference. My autumn colors comparison tells the story pretty well, I think.

Interesting comparison. The difference in color in the twigs and other fine details is caused by Bayer bleeding, each Bayer pixel obtains color via Bayer averaging i.e. "asking" it's neighboring pixels, which in this case are red, what color it should be, so the twigs take on a red hue. One of my favorite example of this is:

where you can see the white bars take on the color of whatever they are in front of. There's no escaping this phenomenon with Bayer.

Very nice example, Mike, which gives the lie to the oft-seen claim that down-sizing fixes all things Bayer.

Sorry Bryce, R.I.P.

It doesn't fix it, it just hides it by making it too small to be seen. What does fix it is using pixel shift but that can only be used under very specific circumstances. And even pixel shift won't completely give Bayer the Foveon look as the fixed color filters on a Bayer chip still limit the color response.
