Veiling Glare - Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 DC OS

Has any Owner of the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 DC OS noticed a greater susceptibility to Veiling Glare/Flare compared to other lenses in general?

Today, while playing with an exposure meter I shot toward the South with the Sun at about 50 deg elevation and maybe 30 degs camera right:

The lowering contrast of the ground going left to right looks like glare to me.

Then shooting in the other direction within a few minutes:

Obviously the tree - but also the license plates. Although they look blown, none of their content exceeds 254 out of 255 in value.

I'm asking because it might be internal reflections in the old Sigma SD9 camera I just bought. I've asked about that camera here:

Thanks for looking ...
