exposure compensation vs. ISO

exposure compensation vs. ISO

If you had a photo that you thought was too dark, or underexposed, would you increase the exposure compensation, or would you increase the ISO, and why? What are the benefits or drawbacks in either approach?

The same questions would apply for photos that are too light or overexposed.
