Tech Q: Vibration-Sensor Cleaning
1

Hello,

I guess most modern cams have some sort of mechanism for "vibrating-off" any dust that collects on the sensor. After trying mine on a Nikon D5500, it did not seem to do any good, even after three consecutive tries, so I wet-swabbed the sensor and it worked fine. Not having previously used the vibrating technique for a couple of years, I wondered if I should set the camera to do it every time the cam is turned ON.

But my question is: This vibration is done by some mechanism, which if overused may lead to failure. Is this an independent system, OR would its failure also affect other functions of the camera (such as, say, the image stabilization mechanism?)

Thank you
