It has to do with how some lenses focus closer.

Doing so , some move a group of lens elements forward internaly rather than just extending the front element but by doing so they lose field of view.

I noticed that many years ago when Tamron came out with their first 28-200mm. At the close range it had the FOV of a 135mm lens.

The term used for it now is "focus breathing" .
