So now we know what breaks in the shutter box. Cheap gears, probably brittle plastic instead of nylon or similar.

The repair guy mentioned the salvage gear came from a Ricoh camera. I believe Asia Optical has (or had) some connection to Ricoh. This is purely speculation, if there is / was a Ricoh connection, maybe Asia Optical used same or similar parts used to build Ricoh cameras? I think Asia Optical is an OEM that has many connections in optical design and camera manufacturing that we "outsiders" would never know about.

Anyway, I'm glad I was able to get my camera repaired.
