DIY Jib for travel

I frequently don't want to carry a jib with me when I travel.  But I usually have a tripod, monopod, and gimbal.  So with a long quick release plate and a couple of clamps, you can make a DIY Jib.

Bunch of pictures.  I used a sandbag for this setup, but when I travel I bring a bag that holds some water bottles and hang it off the end as a counterweight.

Here is the entire setup.

It balances quite well.

I use a right angle HDMI connector to clear the head of the monopod.  It lets me disconnect the monopod/boom arm from the tripod which has the monitor clamped on it, without unplugging from the camera or monitor.

This is a picture of the mount for the monopod.  I'm using a small Sirui head that takes an arca plate, so it's a long arca plate with two clamps attached.

This is a shot showing how it balances.

I clamp the monitor to the tripod.  I don't have a clamp point on the head (although I could probably screw into the arm, but then it would be inconvenient to switch to using the head in the normal fashion.

A closeup shot of the plate with clamps to hold the monopod/boom arm.

This is the entire setup, broken down for packing.  I actually remove the feet from the monopod and the battery compartment from the gimbal as well, in order to pack it in the camera bag.  It's a Zhiyun Crane V2, Benro Carbon Monopod,  Gitzo Traveller Tripod, and Sirui VA-5 head.

All packed into an Incase DSLR Pro Camera Bag.  This is a nice long bag, which I got to carry an Edelkrone slider and motion control system.  It's long enough to hold the Benro Monopod with the feet removed.

One thing that is nice about this bag is the dividers are velcro-sticky all over.  So it's easy to stick the dividers into shapes that hold odd-shaped gear.  Which is the problem with the gimbal; it doesn't pack very well.
