An under-appreciated little gem: F70EXR

In the "People's favorite finepix models" thread, https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64579816 yesterday, yr obdnt srvnt wrote:

The F70EXR, which replaced our F30 in autumn 2009, . . . was a HUGE upgrade from the F30. Although the F70EXR had a slightly smaller sensor (1/2") than the F30 (1/1.6"), it was one of the first two Fujifilm cameras to have hardware EXR, and it was a relief from the F30/F31fd's greatest weakness: very limited dynamic range. Always set to M size, to produce 5 MP EXR images from a 10 MP sensor, the dynamic range capture of F70EXR images was a couple of orders of magnitude superior to the dynamic range that the F30 could capture. The F70EXR also had an (equivalent) 27 mm-270 mm zoom lens, and the extra telephoto capability made it a more versatile instrument in the field.

We continued to use the F70EXR for well over eight years, until early 2016 [ed. note: the date actually was April 2017], despite, by that time, owning and using an X10 and an XF1. I think we have misplaced the F70EXR around the house somewhere, but there is a possibility that it may have been lost in our luggage on our return from a funeral in Japan in 2016 [2017].

Writing the above jogged my memory to make a search for the beloved old camera, and that search was successful this morning. Pulling out the SD card in the camera, we found that the last pictures on it were taken in 2017 mid-April in Sapporo, where the funeral/* was held. /*The Japanese are very quick to cremate the remains of the deceased, so the equivalent of a funeral is a ceremony to place the urn in a columbarium, often months after the person died, when the family can be summoned.

Here is one of the images stored on the card; the photo had been shot though a window of the Sapporo ANA hotel of a spring morning thundershower crossing over downtown Sapporo; it shows nicely how that very small, concealable in the palm of a medium-size adult hand, camera nevertheless delivered the goods in capturing nuances within a scene with a very wide dynamic range.
