40-150 f2.8 + TC vs 100-400 vs 300F4

What is the most rational option for the occasional wildlife, bird and astro shooter?

i am in a very slow upgrade path and am looking for an upgrade for my E420 +40-150 kit lens that covers my long range since a long time.

my MFT setup is a new em1-ii that replaced old em5 mki this summer with some high carat primes ( voigtlander 17.5, 12 f2 and 45f1.8).  I am used to zoom with my feet to fill the frame 😀.

for astro (moon, nebula,...) and wildlife/ birds and as an alternative for binoculars, i want to add a nice lens.  I learned that f6 is a little bit on the slow end and 150 mm handheld is a challenge without stabilisation.  Wildlife comes out at dawn and dusk...

there are good offerings for a 40-150 with the 1.4 TC for 1200€ new or 1000€ used.  This is about the same price range as the 100-400.

i don’t care when i miss a shot, but would like to have some keepers that stand out in IQ.
Is the 40-150 the way to go, should i go for the 300f4 at a premium or wait until the 100-400 f5-6.3 arrives in the shop?

when i look at the bulk , i am leaning towards the more universal 40-150.

is there a chance that prices come down lower than 1000 for the 40-150 paired with the TC?

thx for your advice,
