Little different response here. I really like my new-in-August Z50. Great walk-around with 16-50; excellent quality photos. Pairs well with my Sigma 17-70C & FTX, and I was satisfied with the results from shooting a borrowed 10-20 & FTZ (results comparable to my Tokina 12-24). I really enjoyed my 3+ years with a D7200 ( and 7100 before that) and the Z50 seems much better. So IMHO, the vast price differential against the excellent Z7 could finance a few treks or tours.
Now to my point: I was very surprised that the Z50 and 50-250 are not quite up to the D7200 and Tamron 70-300 SP I used for moonshots and birds then cropped. The Tammy was the older model and not FTZ-compatible. I wouldn’t think that 4MP and 50mm more would be that much sharper and croppable, but the Z combo just doesn’t compete “out there”. Maybe I need the later Tammy or the vaunted AF-P FX + FTZ to make it so. Lot heavier and $$. Just my $0.02 worth.

I think I could be happy with the Z50 and the upcoming Z 18-140, too bad there is no wide angle lens on the roadmap. Like I said personnaly the results from my 10-20 are ok but definitely not at the level of the 16-80..
