I'm very happy with my old 17-35. The motor squeaks a bit on first actuation but I use it manual focus for landscape and other stuff anyway, so I'll not have it fixed if and when it does quit. I agree it's not as sharp as the 14-24 but it suits my purposes well. I like that it takes 77mm filters like my other go-to lenses.

Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 AF-S on D750, 17mm, ISO 100, 20sec, f/16 with Lee Big Stopper ND filter.
