Hi there, i have the old Nikon 12-24 f/4, it was my first ultra wide angle, got it for a crazy good deal so jumped on it to jump on it. I've never shot UWA before and it seems like images are just okay with it. Closer proximity stuff, shooting car interiors can be mixed, but when i shot some landscapes with in Monterey i was very disappointed even stopped down.

Can you post some examples, including EXIF?  Monterey can be tricky due to fog and recently due to smoke and haze.

It may be that your "crazy good deal" was, in fact, too good to be true and the lens needs repair or alignment.  While there are certainly more modern DX zooms out there, at typical landscape apertures I would assume only modest gains in sharpness for properly functioning lenses.

My current DX ultrawide is a Tokina 12-28mm f/4.  Since I use it on an IR-converted D7200, though, I'm the wrong person to ask about so-called IQ.
