Point and shoot that is worth buying over a modern smartphone

I'm planning on buying a point and shoot camera as an upgrade to my Pixel 3A.

My needs are pretty modest, I want to take better pictures of my family on weekends and vacations.
I want to get a camera that:
a. I could easily handle with one hand.
b. Would fit in a coat or even a jeans pocket.
c. Has zoom.
d. Will be an upgrade to my phone in terms of picture quality.

Now, I know that modern phones, while having a small sensor, have generally better image processing, and give a fight to entry-level cameras.

While I do not want to spend a lot on a camera, I don't want to take a step back in picture quality, and to have to carry an entire camera just for the zoom.

Which brings me to the obvious question - budget.

Will I be correct to say that for my needs I'd need to pay north of 500$?

I've seen the G7X Mark III as a candidate, which ups my initial budget, but even it loses slightly to IPhone 11 Pro in the following review:
What would you suggest me to do?

Canon PowerShot G7 X
