Astrophotography with Nikon D5500

Hi everyone,

I am an amateur photographer and I have never done astrophotography before. I am planning to do astrophotography with my D5500 and 16-80 f2.8-4E lens. I have watched couple of youtube videos and more or less have some understanding now.

However I am still not sure about couple of things. What iso is suitable for astrophotography being that it is a crop sensor? Also I have read somewhere that D5500 is iso invariant. So is it okay to brighten the picture in pp?

Also what kind of metering should I use? spot or matrix metering?

Any help will be much appreciated. TIA
