Shutter and FPS - how do they go together?

Hi!

One day I believe I have understood the topic, other times I am not so sure.. So, could you good people please correct me:

Let's say we are shooting on the EOS R (any digital camera with a mechanical non-rotary disc shutter) and the FPS is set at 24/sec. Now, what happens if we change the shutter speed?

Look at my attached image. Is this the way the camera does it? If we set at shutter at 1/48, a picture with that shutter will be taken and made to last for 1/24 of a second. This repeats itself for every "placeholder" (a "slot" lasting 1/24 seconds). If you pick a shutter of 1/96, a picture with this shutter is taken every 24th of a second and made to last for 1/24 of a second. But what happens if we choose a shutter of 1/8? Will the camera take a picture with this shutter speed and extend the image over three 1/24-slots so we in effect really have 24/3 = 8 individual frames per second?

Please educate me on how the camera does this, and please let me know if this differs from digital cameras. What about professional digital cameras used e.g. in Hollywood?

Thank you
