thinking the SR is slightly sharper ?

I went with the 5DSR. To be honest, it was really kind of a tossup decision. The ulitimate increment of sharpness versus moire avoidance. I reasoned I would be mainly using the camera for landscape, less so for genres where moire is a concern. But really a toss up.

I agree that it is a toss up. I went with the 5DSR just in case.

Yes, the sR is sharper, but it also displays Moiré given half a chance.

So, after you change the amount of post processing sharpness (5Ds having a bit more than 5DsR) you end up with nearly the same resolution--a resolution few lenses can deliver.

IT really is a choice--and sharpness is often overrated.

Either 5Ds or R are great cameras, grab one now cos once they have all gone you will kick yourself.. In daily work, either will challenge your photographic ability.. L

I've had a 5Ds for a few weeks, and I've just discovered that my browsing software application can't handle the big files - the automated size reduction feature simply passes the full res files through, without resizing them suitable for emailing to family. I haven't updated my software app so I guess that's the problem, but it all works with files from my 7D MkII.

Hi, Not sure what you mean, are you using a Mac or PC? I have a very old Mac (9yrs) which I use as a Home Security System, running 4 usb video cameras, with those running it will still run Apples photo App and or Preview.. Both admittedly slow when PP any 5Ds files.. My 4year old 27" iMac, a basic model runs Photos etc.. with NO issues ~ RAW Leica D-Lux7/Canon 90D/Canon 5Ds files are handled without issues.. In PP I always save a smaller jpeg file for emailing or messaging, can I ask what App/Program you are using to view & PP your images?..

I'm using a PC.

Sorry, I'm not prepared to name the software giving me a problem, until I've discussed it with the application writer - it's not a large company. I expect it's sort of my fault as I haven't upgraded the application for several years. My very old copy of Photoshop does what I want file by file, and if I was really bothered, I could write one of the "Action" programs for Photoshop to work on a batch of images.

Aloha, so in actual fact, it's probably your third party App that's creating your PP issues.. I understand you don't want to name the company, matter closed.... L

the canon 5DsR doesn't have the AA filter, so it is supposed to take sharper photos--but i have heard there isn't noticeable difference between the 2. also, theoretically, the 5DsR exhibits moire more than 5Ds, which i haven't seen the side by side demonstration, so far. i wouldn't pay attention to that little detail and if you go with 5Ds, you'll save about $300 at this time, before they are all gone!

Been using the 5DSR for 3 years and love it. No problems whatsoever. Great IQ. Never used the 5DS, but I imagine it’s pretty close to the R in quality. I’d get the R.

I work on a new Mac, so I I’m not having issues with speed, although my other bodies do load Files faster.

The 5DSr actually has an additional filter compared to the 5Ds. It cancels out the first filter.

i am not sure of that much of detail but even if there is a AA cancellation filter, it amounts to the same thing. as far as i know, AA filter is there to avoid more, which cancels some of the sharpness in the process that is caused by AA filter!

A typical AA filter is 2 layers of a birefringement material placed at + and - 45º angles to horizontal (or vertical).

The 5DsR filter has those two layers, but they are arranged so that the second layer undoes the result of the first layer.

The 5DsR has both layers so that the "optical path" would be the same as the 5Ds and thereby all the "stuff" developed in the 5Ds would work perfectly in the 5DsR.
