I had the R and bought the R6. The EVF is really the only black eye for the R6, and to me it seemed like a downgrade from the R no matter what refresh/performance mode I used. My EVF on the R6 showed flickering when I was shooting outdoors in overcast conditions and I would have gray clouds in the frame – the areas in the low-contrast areas would flicker. My GFX 50R sometimes does this, but it has much older EVF technology, so I was surprised the R6 was the same way. But on normal sunlit conditions, it was about the same as the R.
The R5 EVF is world's better than the R6 – very large range of tones that help envision the dynamic range of the RAW file. It reminds me of when I finally bought a new 4K HDR television to replace my 8-year-old HD one.
This is strange. Are you sure it isn't some setting for the evf that is enabled? One wouldn't expect such behaviour in a modern camera.
Default setting and higher refresh rate setting – same results.
Must be faulty. Can't be normal. Better contact Canon or the place you bought it from if you haven't already done so.
I returned it and have the R5 now.
