16-35 f/4L better than M 11-22? Because of coatings?

Likewise, I LOVED the 16-35 f/4L, the EF-M 11-22 is VERY capable, but, the rendition is quite different; the lack of coatings that the L gets really counts on the type of shooting the 11-22 encounters.

What do you mean about "the lack of coatings that the L gets really counts" compared to the 11-22? Is it less veiling flare?

I know that I have an EF-S 10-22, an EF-S 10-18, and an EF-M 11-22 and I've found that images from the 10-22 seem to have more contrast out of the camera than images from the other two. I wonder if coatings account for this?

I switched to M only with M native lenses a few years ago for size and weight purposes. But now I'm (maybe) having second thoughts and have been looking at my older DSLRs and lenses.
