I started shooting on a Canon T5, then upgraded to a 6D after my friend convincing me that full-frame will be the best for me. I typically shoot a lot of landscape, abandoned/urban exploration, night shots and lately street photography. This is just a hobby of mine when not working my 9-5, hence why I would LOVE an R5/R6, but it is out of my price range. My girlfriend uses a Canon 7D II, which allows us to share lenses which is great and why I don't want to switch to all RF or another system.
Our EF lens collection is solid for our usages with the following:
Rokinon 14mm w/AE chip - solely used for night shots/stars/milky way
Canon 24mm f/1.4L - Used for walk around, street shooting, night street shooting, landscape, my go-to lens
Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM - Also used for street shooting when 24 is too wide, and when I want a little more reach doing landscape/abandoned shooting
Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM - Portraits (rare), more reach when walking around, detail work in urbex
Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM - The telephoto lens, I also have a Canon 1.4x extender for this, but I lose autofocus on my 6D due to lack of AF points, which keeps it in the camera bag at all times at the moment
I also have a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 35mm Film camera that I use from time to time, which takes all of these EF lenses as well, typically the 24L or 50 1.8 are used on the film camera.
That being said, I am going to be going on a trip to Ireland next year, and want to upgrade prior to the trip. Also, the 6D + 24L is a bit big and heavy when walking around, trying to be discreet, which is another reason I am looking to go mirrorless, instead of 5D4.
[TL:DR]
My question is, would the R be my best bet for an upgrade?
I see they are going for around $1300 on the used market, which is doable after saving up a little bit. I would like some other's who have experience with the R line, to chime in, if the RP would suffice or if it is really worth waiting and saving up for the R6. My reasoning for leaning towards the R is I love having my top LCD screen for quick setting changes (as I have on my 6D), but I have a lot of issues with focusing on my 6D as it is slow (for street shooting) and misses a lot, along with all of the new features of the newer cameras.
