Sony newcomer confused about FE/E

I'm in the process of moving over to Sony (the A7R4) from Nikon and looking at a number of lenses to use with the new camera.

I am a bit confused by the distinction between E and FE designations - I've read previous threads here and other information elsewhere, and to be honest I'm not sure I'm any the wiser.

I've read in several places that Sony uses "E" for crop-frame lenses and "FE" for those designed for full-frame bodies. And yet I'm seeing many lenses for sale which are presumably designed for full-frame yet which are described as "E-mount", with no reference to "FE" at all.

For example: I'm looking at the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 which is advertised (and reviewed!) in many places as "for Sony E mount". Is this separate from some other "FE" version that I'd need for the A7R4? If I order a Sigma 24-70 F2.8 "for Sony E mount" am I going to getting a lens designed for crop sensors?

This seems somehow far more confusing than the Nikon DX/FX system!

Thanks for any help.
