Covid restrictions... safe distance while wearing a mask?

I am currently living in India and am excited to test out a couple of specialized portrait lenses (actually Cine projection lenses) I recently got. Preliminary results look impressive. The problem, of course, is Covid. I am just wondering what people's reactions are to my quandary.

I will generally maintain at least 6 feet from my subject when I take the shot and will have a mask (even two) at all times. My subjects, random people whom I meet on the street will not have masks. I would likely ask them to take the mask off to photograph them. The question is, are the risks worth it? Of course, no one can answer that question for myself other than me, but I am just wondering what photographers who take street portraits (and those that don't) think about this issue?

Thanks,

-Charles
