Like the second photo.

1. Try various brightnesses and contrast, it might change the balance.

2. MANY of these types of photos start out like yours, then they add 'rays of sunlight breaking through the leaves' in photoshop. Look it up. Try it with your photo, it is a huge improvement. Without the rays it is difficult to appreciate that what this image is all about, it is about the light coming through the trees, not the depressingly dark trees and their shadows. Paint in the light and boom, your image will tell a different story. Aaron Nace has a tutorial about it but you can look it up by others.
