Memory card failure?

Not just you

I have been shooting digital since 2000.  In all that time, I have never lost images due to a memory card failure.  I have lost images due to a camera firmware error though, and I did have a (singular) memory card fail, but not while in use in a camera, so no images were lost.

The firmware issue was due to a firmware update that had a bug in it.  Under certain conditions, the camera would lock up and the only way to recover was to pull the battery.   To their credit, the company issued a very quick updated firmware within a week or two, that fixed the bug.

The single card failure was due to a bad batch of cards from Sandisk.  It was announced on their site.  Even with them admitting the defect, they refused to replace the card or refund me the cost.  That is why I now refuse to buy Sandisk.

Currently my cards are mainly 128GB and I use a 256GB card in my GH5.

The vast majority of "card failures" are due to user error and mishandling.

Small cards are for pussies.
