I think the Z50 can focus pretty well in low light, however you need to pay attention to the aperture. The kit lens at 16 mm (f3.5) focuses well, but of course at the long end 50 mm (f6.3) the performance drops quite a bit.
I think that if you use a fast lens (either a Z or a F + FTZ) you will find that the perfomance of  the Z 50 in low light is excellent for an APSC camera. Or at least that's my experience with a FTZ + 35 mm DX f1.8
