Protective spray on B&W Canson Platine prints absolutely necessary?

I'm making b&w prints (11x17, 13x18 & 17x22) on Canson Platine, printed with an Epson 3880 that I'd like to hang bare using the Posterhangers system.

The paper has that nice matte effect on the non-printed parts complimented by the semi-gloss printed areas which I'd like to preserve if possible.

I'll lose the matte/semi-gloss variance if I spray them so I'd appreciate knowing if those of you with much more experience think they absolutely should be sprayed.
