Is the New Sony Video Color Science Really Better than the Old?

Sony's latest hybrid cameras have new color science that some reviewers have praised. "Old" Sony colors have generally been disliked, or at best tolerated. But is there really a difference?

The Sony RX100 V has the old color science. The Sony ZV-1 has the new. They have the same sensor. I shot the same scene with both cameras using the Slog2 Picture profile, which has the largest color gamut and the highest dynamic range. In post I used a LUT. The clips were shot ETTR, with two stops over to minimize noise. The specific LUT was for an overexposure of two stops to correct the luminance. Other than using the same LUT, I did nothing to the clips.

I fixed the ISO at the native ISO in each camera for Slog2 (1600 for the RX100 and 1000 for the ZV-1). Shutter speed was 1/60th.
