So last month, I did some mild reworking of my lenses, gave away my 35/2.8 and 85/1.4, and ended up with:

16-35 + 24-105 zooms

24/1.4
45/1.8 - Very nice cheap walkaround after you buy 4 and keep the only one that isn't horribly decentered
85/1.4, but Sigma this time.

And I went around with my 24 and my 45, and my takeaway was that for woods and single or two-prime walkaround, I wanted a 35.

At this point, I'm fairly undecided between the Sony 35/1.8 and the Sigma 35/1.4. Maybe the Samyang 35/1.8 can tempt me, but see above about 4 tries, it'd better be *super* tempting. I may at some point buy a 35/1.2, but that's heavier than any _zoom_ I own.

The 35/1.8 is lighter and has better focusing with good bokeh, the 35/1.4 is the best of the 1.4's by far.

At this point, I think I'm leaning 35/1.8, since I've really liked the lightness of my 45 prime on walks and wanted slightly better MFD for things like leaf pictures.

What do you guys think about the 35/1.8 vs. the 35/1.4?

Note quote in bold: single prime 35

Size, f1.8 and ability to close focus are FE35 strengths as a single lens setup.

I like this lens a lot.

I have 35/2.8 and still take FE35 most of the time.
