Loooong exposures on XT series (considering switch)

Hey folks,

Landscape + travel photog on a Nikon D7100, here.

I'm sorely tempted to switch to Fuji, purely for the user experience, with a few reservations.

I do a lot of long exposure (2-10 mins) and it's a truly painful process on the D7100:

  • Squint at tiny viewfinder - often at awkward angles - and try to compose + simultaneously lock tripod head all while keeping horizon level on the rear screen - horrible!
  • Set focus
  • Determine 'standard' exposure
  • Take test shot and evaluate histogram
  • Adjust to preserve highlights and repeat
  • Use a phone app to calculate target exposure with ND filters
  • Screw on filter(s), trying to not disturb focus
  • Tape up viewfinder with electrical tape to avoid light leaks(!!)
  • Program remote timer, hope I plug it in the right way - it's 50/50 in low light
  • Prey the light levels haven't changed too much during all this
  • Take photo and prey some more (hey, I have 2-10 mins to spare anyway)
  • Evaluate results on the rubbish, fixed screen
  • Re-meter, sometimes having to unscrew filters to do so
  • Re-evaluate what I'm doing with my life

I can't find any YT videos on (proper) long exposures with the Fuji XT series. I understand the Fuji has up to 15 min timer? That would negate the need for an external timer.

Does the live exposure preview work only up to 60-sec exposures?

Finally, my Nikon 70-300 DX is a superb lens. It's extremely light, great IQ and ridiculously affordable (£300). I don't think there's anything close on Fuji? There's the huge, heavy and expensive 100-400 or the cheap and very average(?) 50-140.
