I own a d500 and a d5500 for backup. I have the Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm (f/2.8G IF-ED and the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR. Is that enough for a basketball game photoshoot ? i know it would be better to own also 70-200 or 50-100 1.8f but they are too expensive for me now. I will upgrade later if needed . Because of the virus the court will be empty so no worries about shooting position My question is , is the 17-55mm( 25-82 full frame equivalents ) good enough for this job?

The 17-55 2.8 is a good choice. The 55-300 is not useful. If you find that the 17-55 doesn't get long enough for you, then I would be looking at something like the 24-120mm F4. The Sigma 50-100mm 1.8 is probably the best bet for that range, but like you said it's expensive. Look for a used copy maybe?
