Sony's Contrast & Phase Detection

I have the Sony A7RII. Been doing a lot of BIF with the Sony 100-400mm (yes, I have quite a bit of keepers), but otherwise, other wildlife and landscape. I see that the RIV has added phase detect, complete vertical coverage, actually vs. the RIII. Whereas the RIII is a leap in contrast detect from the RII.

So for action such as BIF, on a pure tracking, autofocus perspective, would contrast or phase be more critical to upgrade?

The easy answer is upgrade to the RIV as it is a leap on both fronts from an RII, among other improvements. But question is really on the relative importance of the two ways to detect moving objects. Thanks.
