My New SD9's Pixel Sharpness

New as in less than 200 total shots.

Took a few hand-held shots yesterday and was a little concerned about slightly soft images. But it does weigh almost a ton and I'm none too steady on my feet.

So today I put it on a tripod and shot my slant-edge target:

From SPP default TIFF > Max Q JPEG > 100% crop

View original size to assess properly.

Thence to QuickMTF to get the numbers:

Seriously contrasty on a cycles-per-pixel basis - just as I expected. The 17-50mm as always giving good results at f/4 and 25mm which is "normal" AOV on an SD9.

ESF (edge spread response i.e. sharpness in my world):

The 10-90% rise is somewhat beyond (i.e. less than) LumoLab's "perfect pixel" amount (section 1.2.2) because of SPP 3.5.2's default sharpening at the 0.0 setting. However, the peak (halo) is not huge and is only just noticeable in DPR's 700-wide post view.

I liken the SD9 to Crocodile Dundee's knife ...

... "knife, mate ... call that a KNIFE?!!!"
