Woolly Frogmouth

I finally got close enough to this flower to take macro shots.

Philydrum Lanuginosum

It lives along the edge of water so it is normally hard to get to with dry feet.

It is a challenge to get accurate focus with a solid yellow object.  One method I use is to set my camera to shutter with auto focus only and I use a back button for focus.  As soon as I press the focus button, I also hold down the shutter button so that the camera will take the picture the instant it is in focus.  If I am too wobbly and can't hold the focus spot in the right place, I may have to take a lot of pictures.  This method can really help in a windy spot.

I use an external flash most of the time.  That has multiple purpose.

1.  To make sure I have enough light for a good exposure.

2. To freeze movement.

3. To soften shadows.

Even if I don't use a flash, it is very important to have enough exposure to prevent a grainy look to the picture.
