Hoka Hey wrote:

I just wanted to report back that the converter/charger system and battery listed below work.

I tested them last night in silent shutter mode. The M6ii shot 30 second exposures continuously for over 9 hours in. It looks like the battery still has more than half a charge remaining, but I did not look at the charge level before I started. So, I'm not sure where the battery level was when I started. This combo is more than enough for an entire night of exposures for star trails which is the original problem I needed to solve.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful comments.

So I had a chance to test it yesterday and all I can say is that this is one of the best accessories I have purchased for the M6ii.

I paired with my small RavPower 10000 mAh powerbank, even while charging my phone using the other port it lasted forever.

For those considering the $60 Canon OEM battery or the AC adpater, this is a much better option. It is actually better than power through USB, since this is a more solid connection, leaving the USB-C port free for other uses.

Now is hard to justify getting the one who connects to an AC outlet given that the powerbank is portable and last long enough

Highly Recommended !

Ok, I found an issue with my powerbank.

Most powerbanks will shut down their charging port once the current demand goes down.

When the M6 II goes into sleep mode and you try to wake it up, it won’t since the power source has been cut down already.

To turn on the powered port again you need to unplug and replug the USB cable.

The fix for this is to have a powerbank that can work with low power devices or have a low power mode.

The coupler manufacturer explains this in the instruction manual and recommends two powerbanks models.

Another solution is to disable the sleep mode timer in the camera, display off is fine but sleep is too low of a draw and will shut down the powerbank and the camera completely.

Just a thought, but could you hack apart your cable and add a resistor in parallel to maintain a minimum current draw?

or get a USB LED light or something.

Does the camera "inactivity" shut down the entire power bank, or just individual ports? If it is individual ports, I suppose you could still use your USB LED by adding a USB "Y" splitter cable. That brings up another issue though... I am assuming the PD voltage requested by the M6 II is higher than the typical 5V USB output.

Each port is independent in regards to sensing inactivity.

In the other port I have a wifi extender that needs continuos power supply.

The moment I hit the powerbank “wake” button, it resets both ports and the wifi extender is forced to reboot and takes like 2 minutes to be fully operational.

This contraption is already complex so the last thing I want is adding more stuff, lol

The simplest more elegant solution would be to get another powerbank.

get a cheap two port non powered hub and run both the camera and the wifi extender from that maybe?
