Yes. Shoot at f/11 or f/16. But in my experience, if you want truly sharp pix you need a decent tripod and a remote shutter release. Bento, Manfrotto, Gitzo, one of those. Used is fine. Never bother with those awful aluminum and plastic tripods from places like Best Buy.

Most beginner photos are soft because even with image stabilization and fast shutter speeds you can’t hold the camera still enough to avoid blur around the fine details. 
A $50 lens shot with a solid tripod will almost always be sharper than a $10,000 lens shot handheld.
