Strange issue with Canon 6D (astro modified)

Hi all,

I have a new 6D that has been astro modified professionally (ie not by me!).
I was using it for astrophotography and I had been noticing some unevenness in the sky, some gradients.
So, I explored further and finally took a shot in daylight with no lens attached and this is what I got

I've been shooting digital for about 10 years but I am at a loss to what causes this? The sensor should be 100% saturated, a completely white image. My first thought was the shutter but due to the grid pattern I can see on the darker side, it probably isn't.
Has anyone else ever seen this before?

Canon EOS 6D
