"Pixel for pixel, nothing beats the Sigma Foveon sensor..."

"Pixel for pixel, nothing beats the Sigma Foveon sensor found in the Sigma DP Merrill line (for fine detail and textural rendition, and freedom from digital artifacts)." Lloyd Chambers, from https://diglloyd.com/blog/2013/20131122_1-SigmaDP3M-beaver-pond.html

This statement is from November 2013.

Does it hold true now?

A lot of new technology and even more new massive megapixel cameras. How do the DP Merrills and Foveon Sensor compare with what is now available?

I see the DP Merrills seem to hold their value pretty well. Some other cameras are almost given away after a couple of years but these are still at least half of the new camera store price. Is it because they still do well when compared to the top end of what is on the market now?

Is the Statement of Chambers to be relied on?
