Battery management?

Hi,

I got a few questions about best managing batteries.

Some sources say it is best to operate between 15-80%, don't let it discharge all the way down, don't 'overcharge'. (I assumed if you left it in the charger at 100% it would shut off? Or is it overcharging?)

Another slightly older source specifically for laptop batteries recommended every couple of months to do a full charge and discharge cycle at least once, 100% to 0% to 'clear out the chemicals" or "reset" something.

Then there is regular charging and rapid charging. Some sources sort of imply rapid charging will degrade chemicals faster and it not advisable, use only in emergencies?

If anyone has good info would love to learn, hopefully reliable from some engineering person with background. I am learning not to trust too many sources off the net since so much is incorrect these days.

Thanks everyone
