Focus hold
1

This could be a dumb question but I can’t wrap my head around it. What does “focus hold” mean for stills? Unless using real time tracking, the focus is locked when the back button is released. Does it only apply when using half shutter focus? If that’s the case it would be awkward to have to press another button while half pressing the shutter. Better just to release it and snap the picture without the half step when focus is achieved. Another technique is to switch to manual focus to hold, but again, why is that necessary?
