Leica Ball Head 18 Long 14110 – operation question

To be clear, I mean the longer of the two silver models of this tripod:

(Though mine is older and has a black handle on the locking screw.)

This tripod head and the associated Leica 14100 tabletop folding tripod legs are a great design if ever I’ve seen one. Brilliant.

However, I have a question about the operation of the butterfly wing screw on the head. On mine, there is about 1/8th of a revolution of slack before the screw either tightens or loosens. Are they all like that?

This is easiest to check by tightening it closed first (locking the ball) and then loosening it.
