No, the same processor.

I don't know that the software for the Digix 8 would work on the Digix 7 even with no protection.

The original M50 was also DIGIC 8. The older M5 and M6 were DIGIC 7.

Also, are we all dismissing any new functionality the Digix 8 could bring to the party?
