Recommendation: Stabilized X100F / V
Oct 17, 2020
In short:
I'm looking for a stabilized X100F / V to shoot more short, candit clips on the fly.
In long:
I've been making my way through a bunch of lenses and (fewer) bodies to get to what I want and need for varying needs. (Needs are personal and professional and I've tried finding a happy middle ground). I've owned the excellent X-T30 as a 2nd body to my X-T3, and as good as it is the ergonomics devide between it and the X-T3 was just too big for me. So I sold it and got a 2nd X-T3 for the professional side of things.
That left me looking for a daily carry around option. Now, I'm happy to carry the X-T3 everywhere, but lens options are on the short side. The 27mm is a great size, but too narrow and at 2.8 not versatile enough for night/dimly lid situations. The 23mm F2 is great, could be wider but not too bad. I've discovered the 18mm recently and love the focal length, but for video it's noisy and hunts quite a bit. Pity, as it could have been the one. I was hoping the rumored 1.4 was going to be more of an update than a completely new option. Let's see how that pans out, though. Could still be an option.
But the new 18mm would mean my carry-around would grow in size again, which is not ideal.
Even so, the small lens option+X-T3 means no stabilization. I could go X-T4, but selling both X-T3' s would only finance 1 new X-T4.
The X100V really is the perfect size and form factor, but again no stabilization. Could be a tad wider as well.
Does that mean Ricoh GRIII? Reviews seam to say its video quality is not great.
And, yeah, I see the X-S10 on the horizon... just getting big again. Sure, X-T3 is bigger, but I already own that. I'd prefer not to get another body that's on the bigger side. Compact would be great.
Time to shop outside the Fujifilm family?
