Hi there, my ancient memory card will not format properly and shows zero frames available. I have followed instructions from the manual but it does not work. What can I do to resolve this problem. I put the photos on a computer with a cable. I deleted all photos then tried formatting. Still showing FULL! Would appreciate a solution. This a new camera for me and it is just one challenge after another

Some compact flash cards have a write protect switch on them. You should for look for a little switch on the edge of the card. None of the cards have them but many do.

CF cards do not have this switch

Some do. Actually I have several that do. Try Google.

I found none. Please provide a link to one.

Thank you,

Here’s an example from DigiKey:

CF is used in hundreds of other products beside photographic cameras. Actually not many cameras use them these days. The CF cards have been around longer than digital cameras. The reason some of them have a write protect switch is to ensure that a device cannot corrupt or overwrite its boot device.

Again not all the cards have them, and if you have like newer Transcend or other types of cheaper consumer grade memory it might not have it. But actually the Kodak ones that came with my DCS Pro back had write protect switches.
