Am I missing something with your communication? There is no 90 degree arm extending out- you remove the battery door, slide the portion with the electronic connectors into the camera and the bottom of the grip attaches to the bottom of the camera with nothing sticking out

What he means is that if you transport camera and grip separately, the L-shaped grip is an extreme p.i.t.a., as it takes a large amount of room, easily way more than its volume. Also, with all my bags, leaving the grip attached to the body is not a solution. The bag would simply not close.
